The Nauloco Bianco IGP by Cantine Lipari is a wine that embodies the deep connection between ancient history and the winegrowing vocation of Sicily. Its name recalls the ancient Nauloco port, located along the Tyrrhenian coast between Milazzo and Capo Peloro, famous for the naval battle between Sextus Pompey and Octavian Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome. From this land steeped in legend and maritime tradition comes a white wine that expresses elegance, freshness and authenticity.
Crafted from three native Sicilian grapes – Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia – the Nauloco Bianco undergoes a 30-day maceration on the skins and a 6-month vinification in terracotta amphora. This ancient winemaking method allows the wine to breathe and mature naturally, enhancing its aromas and minerality. The result is a white wine with authentic character, balanced structure and distinctive personality – a true expression of its terroir.
In the glass, it shines with an intense golden-yellow hue. The nose reveals elegant aromas of dried fruit, citrus and white flowers, with subtle hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is dry, fresh and mineral, with a long and harmonious finish. A versatile and captivating wine that combines tradition and modernity in every sip.
The grapes come from the hills of Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina), where limestone and clay soils and a South/Southeast exposure ensure perfect ripening. The altitude of about 300–350 meters above sea level gives the wine remarkable freshness and aromatic complexity. Harvesting takes place manually in mid-September, selecting only the best bunches to preserve the full quality of the fruit.
Nauloco Bianco IGP pairs beautifully with fish dishes, shellfish, seafood and fresh cheeses. It also makes an excellent aperitif or accompaniment to light Mediterranean first courses. Serve chilled, at 10–12°C, to fully appreciate its aromatic nuances and natural elegance.
