Nawàri – The Pinot Noir of Mount Etna

Origin and philosophy

Nawàri was born from an ambitious project by Duca di Salaparuta: cultivating pure Pinot Noir in Sicily, on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. The combination of volcanic soils, altitude, and dramatic day–night temperature shifts gives this wine its distinctive elegance and minerality. Nawàri expresses the delicacy of Pinot Noir enhanced by the strength of Etna’s terroir.

Harvest and winemaking

The grapes are hand-picked into small 3 kg crates on September 5, 2020, ensuring only the finest fruit reaches the cellar. After gentle destemming, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26–28 °C with maceration on the skins for about one week after fermentation. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by 12–14 months of aging in fine-grained oak barrels (new and second passage) and at least one year of bottle refinement before release.

Tasting notes

Color: bright ruby red with garnet reflections.
Nose: complex and seductive, with notes of wild berries, red currants, blackberries, and light hints of white pepper and sweet tobacco.
Palate: elegant and vertical, with fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering, mineral-driven finish that reflects the volcanic character of the terroir.
