The 2012 Riserva, the last vintage signed by Franco Biondi-Santi, was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11) clone, identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the seventies. For this Reserve, grapes originating exclusively from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age were used.
The result is a surprising wine for its freshness and aromatic complexity, personality, stylistic consistency and taste finesse.

Throughout his life Franco Biondi-Santi was a proud promoter and resolute defender of the territory of Montalcino that he loved so much. Only 39 vintages of Brunello Riserva were produced in the history of Tenuta Greppo. Only 24 of these bear the signature of Franco Biondi-santi, including this spectacular bottle, which is now part of his latest production, prior to his death.
The 2012 Riserva was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the seventies. For this Reserve, grapes originating exclusively from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age were used. Its distinctive freshness lends a wonderful liveliness to the monumental yet refined structure. The bouquet opens like a symphony of soft and fruity scents that evolve in a crescendo of notes of aromatic herbs, licorice and balsamic sensations. In the mouth it is elegant and savory with crunchy tannins. The finish is long, clean and fragrant.
A rather warm spring was followed by a dry and sunny early summer. The month of August had temperatures in line with previous years but with slight rainfall in the second part. Cool September with some rain in the week before the harvest, which began on September 10th. Subsequently, the 2012 Riserva was aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels.
Among the longest-lived wines in the world, this Brunello, as Franco Biondi-Santi liked to call it, is an example of how "nature manages to create beautiful things, you just need to know how to wait". Not to be in a hurry is the fundamental imperative, which allows you to taste an extraordinary wine, destined to have a great evolution, so much so that in this vintage it has received the last Riserva to be followed by Franco Biondi-Santi himself, the stratospheric score of 100/100 by Wine Spectator, a number reserved for very few in history.
