PREPHILLOXERA 2019 ETNA RED DOC

Produced from ancient Prefillosseric vineyards, about 130 years old, this wine represents the pride of the Terre Nere estate. The Nerello Mascalese grapes give Prephilloxera a supernatural finesse also thanks to the presence of volcanic soils with a high percentage of pumice stone mixed with basalt. A more timid wine that needs more time to be best enjoyed, it is therefore advisable to decant it before drinking it.

Production area: Calderara district, Randazzo municipality (Catania)

Grape Variety: 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccino

Soil characteristics: volcanic, shallow, very rich in skeleton, traces of ash

Exposure: north side of Etna at 600 meters above sea level

Average age of the vines: vines prior to the phylloxeric attack of the late 1800s

Training system: traditional Etna tree converted to espalier

Harvest period: first ten days of October

Vinification: alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature (28-30 ° C)

Aging: spontaneous malolactic fermentation and maturation in barriques and tonneaux of
French oak (30% new wood).

Bottling after 16-18 months of aging in wood and 1 month of aging
in steel

Appearance: deep ruby ​​with mahogany reflections

Bouquet: complex, notes of wild flowers, red fruits and noble spices

Taste: concentrated, but harmonious and elegant at the same time, of infinite gustatory length
