Lumera Sicily Doc Rosato 2021 - Donnafugata

Lumera is an evocative name, in full Donnafugata style. It's the beloved woman, the sublime being who inspires joy and fullness of life. It's the woman portrayed on the label, it's the wine that bears her name. Lumera is the protagonist of a Sicilian poem that celebrates courtly love and experiments a form, the Dolce Stil Novo, which decidedly anticipates the Italian language. “Or come pote sì grande donna intrare / Per gli occhi mei, che sì piccioli son? / e nel mio core come pote stare […], ma voglio a lei Lumera asomigliare […].

An unconventional rosé, the result of a targeted selection of red grapes. Lumera 2020 is characterized by a fruity and floral bouquet. A very pleasant wine designed for those who love fruity and structured rosés.

Produced exclusively from grapes of Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Pinot Noir, produced on the estate of Contessa Entellina and harvested entirely by hand between August and September. An elegant and delicate combination, perfect for any occasion, from an aperitif to a light lunch, pleasant to enjoy in company.

A beautiful bright pink color, pleasantly fruity notes of berries and pomegranate accompanied by delicate floral hints of violet. A fresh, savory wine with good structure and a delicate persistence of fruity notes.

Perfect for an aperitif, to try paired with seafood salads, vegetable and cheese focaccias. Perfect with raw shellfish or delicious Club Sandwiches.

PRODUCTION AREA: South-western Sicily, Contessa Entellina estate and neighboring territories.

DENOMINATION: Sicilia Doc Rosé.

GRAPES: Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Pinot Nero and Nocera.

SOILS AND CLIMATE: altitude from 200 to 400 m above sea level; hilly orography; clayey soils with sub-alkaline reaction (pH from 7.5 to 7.9) rich in nutrients (potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc) and total limestone from 20 to 35%). Mild winters; dry and windy summers with strong temperature variations between day and night.

VINEYARD: espalier training with spurred cordon pruning, leaving 6 to 10 buds for each plant. Plant density from 4,500 to 6,000 plants per hectare and yields of 75-85 quintals per hectare.

VINTAGE: Contessa Entellina recorded 615 mm of rain in the 2021 vintage, just under the 645 mm average * of this area: rainfall was concentrated in winter, particularly in February and March, while spring was been dry; in this season the delicate phases of flowering and fruit set took place regularly. At the end of June there was a slowdown in the vegetative phase of the plants, which was then compensated by the lower temperatures in July. A heat wave in the first two weeks of August accelerated ripening. The entire vegetative-production cycle was accompanied by intense and careful work in the vineyard and thus ended regularly. The quantity of grapes produced is slightly higher than in 2020 which - it must be remembered - was below the average. The quality is fully in line with the company objectives, oriented towards quality productions. * The rainfall data are collected by SIAS, Sicilian Agrometeorological Service; we consider the rainfall recorded from 1 October to 30 September of the following year; the average is calculated starting from the 2003 harvest.

HARVEST: the grapes for the production of Lumera were harvested between the first ten days of August (Pinot Nero), in the second half of August (Nero d'Avola, Syrah) and in the second ten days of September (Nocera).

VINIFICATION: cold maceration in the press for 12-24 hours at 10 ° C followed by fermentation in steel, at a controlled temperature. Aging in tanks for two months and another two months in the bottle before being marketed.

ANALYTICAL DATA: alcohol 12.12% vol. - total acidity: 5.5 g / l. - pH: 3.20.

TASTING NOTES (24/01/2022): bright pink in color, Lumera 2021 offers a broad and fragrant bouquet with fruity notes of wild strawberries and pomegranate, combined with delicate floral hints of violet. In the mouth it is fresh and savory with a good structure and a pleasant persistence of fruity notes.

LONGEVITY: to be enjoyed within 2-3 years.

FOOD & WINE: perfect for an aperitif, we recommend it paired with seafood salads, vegetable and cheese focaccia. Try it with raw shellfish or delicious Club Sandwiches. Serve it in goblets of medium size, without flaring, of good height. Open at the moment, excellent at 10-12 ° C.

COLLECTION Fresh and Original: pleasant wines with a Sicilian soul. When you want to color your day in an original and pleasant way. A little daily luxury. A discovery to share with friends.

DIALOGUE WITH ART: Lumera is an evocative name, in full Donnafugata style. It is the beloved woman, the sublime being that arouses joy and vital fullness. It is the woman portrayed on the label, it is the wine that bears her name. Lumera is the protagonist of a Sicilian poem that celebrates courtly love and experiments with a form, Il Dolce Stil Novo, which definitely anticipates the Italian language. “Now how could such a great woman enter / For my eyes, which are so small? / and how could it be in my heart […], but I want Lumera to resemble her […].
