Pasta Reale - Artisanal Nebrodi hazelnut biscuits - Typical Sicilian product

Crispy hazelnut biscuits typical of the Sicilian tradition, mainly from the Nebroidea area, and in particular from the municipality of Tortorici, in the province of Messina.

It is sometimes mistakenly associated with marzipan, made with sugar and almond flour, now widespread not only in Sicily, its area of origin, but also in the rest of the world. The real Pasta Reale, on the other hand, is a particular dessert due to its crunchiness and based on hazelnuts, toasted and reduced to grains, strictly Sicilian!

The preparation, simple and complex at the same time, consists in making small pyramids of dough which are then cooked in the oven at around 160 degrees; this causes the contents of the sweets to leak out laterally which, thanks to the heat, quickly crystallises, forming an irregular layer of hazelnut brittle. The central part, emptied by the leakage of its interior, becomes thinner and takes on the characteristic crunchiness of an empty shell. Its name in fact derives from the jagged crown shape it takes on after cooking. Among the secrets for making this dessert there is not only the correct toasting of the hazelnuts, but also their strictly local origin.

The intense flavor of toasted hazelnuts from the hazelnut groves of the Nebrodi mountains, combined with the exquisite crunchiness of a biscuit that melts in your mouth!

"Pasta Reale" is ideal to eat on its own, for breakfast or as a snack... or perhaps to accompany an ice cream.
