The Merlot Terre Siciliane PGI produced by Barone Montalto from grapes grown in the Belice Valley, and like all Montalto wines represents the expression of a magical place, a gift of nature

With an intense red almost black color with purple hues, the nose develops aromas of plum and blackberry jam with spicy notes. In the mouth it is full and the tannins are not lacking while remaining discreet and round. Excellent persistence and balance

In the vinification process, maceration takes place in 12-15 days at 26 ° C with daily pumping over. Once drawn off, it is aged in first and second passage French barriques for about 8 months

Perfect to drink in combination with red meats, game and cheeses. Very suitable for very seasoned courses. It goes beautifully with cured meats and pate de foie gras. To be paired with baked suckling pig

AREA OF ORIGIN Valle del Belice. Relatively deep alluvial based soils of medium texture with a mix of limestone and sand. Dark soils with a good content of organic matter.

SOIL Argilloso Limoso

WINEMAKING This Merlot is a selection of the best barrels during maturation. The must is fermented for 12-15 days with extended skin maceration and a delestage towards the end of fermentation. The wine is matured in a mix of one and two year old French barriques.

TASTING NOTES Intense deep red colour, almost black, with purple hues. The nose is complex with the integration of French oak balanced by plum, blackberry and spice. The palate is full and concentrated with dark berry fruit, subtle tannins and vanillan oak edges.

FOOD PAIRINGS It particularly suits fatty and tasty dishes. It goes well with foie gras paté, salami and delicatessen meats. It perfectly matches the typical oven baked baby pork. Serve at 12-14°C
