The Pupillo agricultural company was founded in Syracuse in 1909 in the Targia feud. The company takes its name from its founder: Nino Pupillo, who gave new life to the wine production of Feudo Targia.
Their mission is to give a new life to the famous Moscato Bianco di Siracusa, and this mission is now in the hands of Nino Pupillo's successors, namely Carmela and Sebastiano, also committed to innovation and environmental sustainability.
The history of the Pupillo Agricultural Company begins in 1909 when Antonino Pupillo and his wife purchased the Targia fiefdom. After years and years of management, Antonino left the company to his sons Sebastiano and Paolo, with the task of modernizing the company's production processes, which in those times were more concentrated on citrus fruits and vegetables. In the 1980s, however, a new challenge awaited the Pupillo agricultural company, namely that of reviving wine production. Respect for biodiversity, the use of organic products, the constant monitoring of soil and water, and last but not least the intervention of the DOC Siracusa, made the Sicilian wine denomination DOC Siracusa productive again.
There are three territories in which Pupillo wines are born: Damarete, Mulino and Senie.
Damarete is a huge Moscato Bianco vineyard, the heart of the wine production of the Pupillo company. The sunniest of their vineyards which grows on calcareous lands. From these vineyards comes the passito Solacium, the dry white Cyane, the demi-sec Pollio, and the white Damarete.
Mulino, a vineyard that is a unique combination of multiple lands, near the sea, from which the legend of Moscato di Siracusa was born. In fact, it is precisely on these lands that Nino Pupillo grafted the first vines.
Senie, in the Targia area, on an unusual presence of volcanic soils, Nero d'Avola and Catarratto, two very important native vines, are born. It was born on an exposed hill in the northern area of Syracuse.
