Etna Bianco Superiore DOC V.Q.P.R.D. - Produced on Etna by Az. Vin. Baron of Villagrande

Villagrande is not only the name of the district of Milo in the province of Catania, but also a unique and fascinating reality, where the Nicolosi family has lived for over three hundred years. The vineyards, dominated by the winery, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna at 700 meters above sea level, descend into a sort of natural amphitheater towards the sea, overlooking Taormina and the Ionian Sea. For generations they have been bred in unique climatic and landscape conditions. Mountain vineyards, surrounded by oak and chestnut woods that create intense and easily recognizable aromas; the roots sink into a land of strong volcanic origin: the land of Etna Bianco DOC Superiore. Rich in iron and copper, with a good level of potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, very little nitrogen and totally devoid of calcium. Temperatures and precipitation are influenced by the effects of the active volcano and the altitude.

This Sicilian Red Etna DOC V.Q.P.R.D. (Quality Wine Produced in a Determined Region), it is produced from Nerello Mascalese 80%, Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mantellato 20% on volcanic soil. Vinified in steel, with 6-10 days maceration, it matures for 12 months in 500 liter chestnut barrels and bottled at 18 months from the harvest.

"Etna is a world apart in enology not only in Sicily, but in the Mediterranean. The warmth of the South is combined with the mists, temperature changes, frequent rains, in short, there is a pinch of great North in these wines. perceives in delicately fruity, herbaceous and forest tones, softened by the chestnut barrels in which this wine rests for 1 year. A wine with many stories to tell! "

Intense and fluid ruby red color, with a good brilliance. The nose is persistent with floral scents of violets and fresh fruit from the woods, followed by light herbaceous notes. On the palate it is tannic but not aggressive, well compensated by a marked acidity and a fresh and persistent fruit. A nice game of balance between acidity and tannin on one side, fruit and minerality on the other.
