Lu Patri – Nero d’Avola DOC Sicilia

Lu Patri is the single-varietal Nero d’Avola of Baglio del Cristo di Campobello, a DOC Sicilia red expressing the island’s most iconic red grape: robust, round and full-bodied.

The name, “Lu Patri” (the father), evokes the founding figure of a family, a sign of the deep bond with the land and Sicilian traditions. It comes from six hectares of vineyard planted in the spring of 2000.

Territory and winemaking

Deep, mixed calcareous and chalky hillside soils between 230 and 270 metres above sea level. Grapes are hand-picked into small crates, further selected and very softly crushed; maceration lasts around eighteen days at controlled temperature, with frequent pump-overs. The wine ages for about fourteen months in French oak barriques (Nevers, Tronçais, Allier), one third of them new, and at least twelve months in bottle.

In the words of winemaker Riccardo Cotarella: “Deep ruby colour. Balsamic notes, together with aromatic herbs, blackberries and sour cherries. Round and smooth, with lots of flavour. Warm and complex, caressing and spicy, with an underlay of liquorice and elegant tannins. Can be cellared for at least ten years.”

Food pairing and serving

Pair with pasta with meat sauces, roast or braised meats, game and aged cheeses. We recommend letting it breathe for 20-30 minutes in a large glass before serving.
