Guarding means preserving the territory, maintaining traditions and respecting the person

From these values and from the love for a wonderful land like Etnea, where the vine was brought by man more than two millennia ago, the wines of I Custodi are born, fruit of the generosity of the warm volcanic soil and its minerality, of the cold of Muntagna and the sun of Sicily.

Healthy vines of all ages, supported by their chestnut pole, which densely populate (8000 plants per hectare) inaccessible dry lava stone terraces, are cultivated in harmony with the environment that surrounds them only with the strength of the hands of I Vigneri , wise Etna winemakers. In a natural, organic way, as has always been done on Etna for hundreds of years, without synthetic chemicals, respecting people, the landscape and nature.

Etna constantly regenerates itself, and generates new life and culture: the frequent eruptions never make it the same as it was, and the same strength has the work of the men who insist on inhabiting the Mountain.

The lava flows that have occurred over the millennia have left a very variable terrain. As much as we are helping them with our work, the vines have to struggle to survive. Some may be rooted in fertile soil, others find only bare rock.

The microclimate is marked by extreme variations; we have cold temperatures in winter, almost alpine, but in summer the warm Sicilian sun takes us back to the south. And the drought is felt in the volcanic, sandy soils. Only with so much effort can we retain that little bit of moisture in the earth that allows the plants not to have to give up.
