Forfice Sicilian Red Wine D.O.C.G. Cerasuolo di Vittoria of the Polo Cali 'Winery
The Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico from Paolo Calì's company was born in the Forfice vineyard, in the sunniest corner of Sicily, in the heart of the only DOCG in the south.
It is the result of a skilful blend of 50% / 50% Frappato and Nero d'Avola grapes harvested exclusively in the Force vineyard. Maceration on the skins lasts for about 100 days, in order to extract the maximum from the skins. The refinement is completed in 30 hl oak barrels.
With an intense cherry red color, the nose is pleasantly fruity with notes of cherry, raspberry, berries, ginger root, mint, basil and oregano. On the palate it is striking for its excellent fine and persistent tannins and the perfect balance between the acid note and flavor. Important tannins well integrated.
Ideal with red meats and aged cheeses, perfect for Sunday family lunches.
The Cerasuolo di Vittoria has ancient roots, so much so that Pliny the Elder in the 4th century BC. he wrote about it. Today it is the most important wine of the Sicilian wine scene: since 2005 it is the only DOCG of the island.
The DOCG extends into 3 provinces (Ragusa, Catania and Caltanissetta), but the classic denomination is attributable only to the wines of the ancient production area, namely Vittoria, headquarters of the winery, and the neighboring towns.
The 2014 vintage was very successful among professionals in the sector, winning 5 Bibenda grapes and 4 Vitae from the Italian Sommelier Association.
